With more than 35 years of delivering engineering expertise and driving significant fleet expansions, Rob Sech was recently appointed Director of Operations at Modern Rail Capital. He will oversee operations for MRC as the company looks to expand its portfolio of railcars.
“Rob has tremendous experience leading engineering projects and growing diverse rail fleets,” MRC President Kevin Cook said. “For MRC, the key differentiator is offering the best-maintained railcars in the industry – and I know Rob will be instrumental in expanding our well-regarded portfolio.”
Sech has spent decades coordinating engineering efforts and growing profitable rail fleets. Before joining MRC, Sech worked at Wells Fargo Rail (previously First Union Rail) for 16 years, serving as Director of Tank Car Engineering and later as AVP of Engineering. He also served at GATX Rail for 11 years, where he was a Mechanical Engineer and then appointed as Regulatory Compliance & Special Projects Group Leader.
Sech said joining a smaller and nimble team at MRC will be advantageous.
“MRC is the perfect size to be able to pivot quickly,” Sech said. “I’ve worked at large corporations where there are too many meetings and not enough decisions being made. Deals are lost when you can’t move fast enough. That’s why I’m excited to join the very capable MRC team – and start moving fast with them.”
In addition to his professional experience, Sech was the Chairperson of the Railway Supply Group in 2018 and is a current board member and previous president of the Western Railway Club. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University Calumet.
Sech lives in northwest Indiana with his wife. He loves motorcycle riding, trying to break 100 on the golf course and spending time at the nearby Indiana Dunes.
