Abraham joins MRC team as VP of Finance & Treasurer

With experience helping implement significant company growth in the railcar leasing sector, George Abraham has been named as Vice President of Finance & Treasurer for MRC.

Abraham joins our team after coming from SMBC Rail Services, which went through noteworthy growth during his tenure serving as Assistant Vice President of Finance since 2015.

“We really liked that George has an extraordinary amount of experience in rail car leasing. He also has been involved in managing fast growth within an organization – and that’s where we’re headed at MRC,” said Dan Penovich, President of Mitsui Rail Capital. “Those two things, as well as his personality and ability to meld with our team made us feel like he was the right person for the job.”

During his tenure with SMBC, he was responsible for day-to-day operations for the company’s finance and accounting needs. He helped oversee the financial and accounting support of a multi-billion-dollar acquisition. Prior to his time at SMBC, he served as a consultant in the Chicago-area at Growth Stage Accelerators, Inc., acted as Senior Manager and Finance Manager at Motorola (and subsequently Motorola Mobility) and spent time at International Paper and Asea Brown Boveri (ABB).

“Coming from the industry and meeting the executive team as MRC, I just felt like it would be a great fit,” Abraham said. “I feel like the team wants to see growth and I’m excited to have the chance to help with that.”

Abraham earned MBA & CPA while at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Bachelor’s in Engineering from University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Marietta, traveling and caddying for his son and daughter on the golf course.
