A proven leader with deep roots in the rail industry, Kevin McHugh will take over as President at Modern Rail Capital.
McHugh will officially step into the role on Sept. 1, replacing Kevin Cook, who has successfully guided the company as President since 2021. Drawing on extensive commercial and portfolio expertise, McHugh brings a distinguished background that includes senior executive roles at Wells Fargo Rail and GE Capital, as well as his service as a Commander in the U.S. Navy.
“MRC’s customer-focused approach and agility position the company well for continued success,” McHugh said.
For Cook, finding a successor with that caliber of experience and the right character was essential to guiding the company through its next phase of ambitious fleet expansion without losing its core identity.
“The thing I am most proud of over the last five years is the team we have built here at MRC and the focus that we have placed on the customer,” said Cook. “One of the biggest things that we were looking for in my replacement is somebody that can sustain the culture we’ve built here at MRC. Kevin [McHugh] stood out amongst the candidates from a personality perspective, from an approach, and knowledge to be able to continue that culture.”
Under Cook’s leadership, the organization has built a highly collaborative foundation and laid the groundwork for an ambitious new chapter: a strategic growth plan designed to expand MRC’s diverse fleet over the next five years.
McHugh is eager to take that roadmap and run with it.
“I look forward to building on the company’s momentum and driving the next phase of growth,” McHugh said.
